FIFA lifts ban on Yemen

Yemen Football Association is once again entitled to participate in FIFA competitions.
ZURICH - FIFA on Wednesday announced the provisional lifting of the suspension of Yemen from international football because of meddling by the state in the running of the national football association.
The FIFA decision was based on a report submitted by Mohammed bin Hammam, a member of the FIFA Executive Committee and the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), after a visit to Yemen in mid-September.
"As a result of this decision, the Yemen Football Association (YFF) is once again entitled to participate in FIFA competitions and all forms of cooperation can be reassumed," FIFA said.
The YFF agreed to the creation of a normalisation committee, the completion and adoption of revised statutes at an extraordinary congress, as well as the election of a president and an executive committee by February 28, 2006 at the latest.
"However, the suspension will be re-imposed if the YFF fails to respect this roadmap," FIFA said.
FIFA slapped the suspension on Yemen on August 12 in the wake of numerous unsuccessful pleas from both FIFA and the AFC for the Yemeni Ministry for Youth and Sport to respect FIFA's basic principles of independence, democracy and legal procedures for its member associations.
